On the path...

I'm so excited! What a great day it has been. First thing in the morning I convinced my hubby to go with me to an antique shop I had stopped at yesterday on my way back from the doctor's office. I had seen a wonderfully old and gorgeous chair that I thought would look great in my craft room. It is perfect, the lady that owned it is so darn adorable and for $7, how could I not get it? My phone cam is acting up so I will post a pic of it tomorrow. Oh! And I also purchased a wonderful old thimble from England for a buck. I love a bargain!

From there we went to the local knitting shop I found yesterday. I'm all signed up to start lessons on Monday!!! The owner said that after one lesson I should be able to be on my own, so I'm hoping she's right. At the moment the class fee is quite a bit much for us, but I figured $20 can be spent anywhere else so easily. So I'm splurging on me! (I know, a bit lame that $20 is a splurge these days! Oh well!) After we left the store, I was so giddy with excitement... like a little girl with a new toy. :-) I cannot wait to start! Tomorrow I will look for my old needles and my yarn so I can be ready.

Our last stop was Lowe's where we purchased some red lava rocks. Came home and started pulling those ugly bushes that are in the entrance of our house. Took down the Christmas lights and laid the lava rock where the ugly bushes were. We are SO exhausted but it already looks so much better. Once we are able to we will put some foxtail ferns and Mexican Heather ground cover to fill in the space. For the time being we just bought 4 ferns and 2 Heathers to see how they will look. I wish I would have taken a "before" picture but completely forgot. Maybe I have an old one I can use to compare. We are so exhausted, but accomplished.

    Glad you're getting back into knitting. I just got back into crochet myself. It's fun and I understand about the splurge. But sometimes splurging on yourself makes you a happier person. Enjoy the class!

It's time to get started, yet again. January was full of unexpected things. My mom's heart problems became heart disease and we were faced with an emergency. That was trying on my nerves, to say the least. Thankfully, she is doing good which puts me at ease, somewhat. It's hard to be away from her and my dad. I worry about them daily. During that time, the hubs and I had to get the rental house ready for the new tenants. Our previous tenants left the house in a bit of a disarray. After lots of work, we finally got it ready and rented. Now we are hoping these tenants will be good and last for a long time. I hope all renters would take care of the property they are renting and pay on time. And now on to new things. I finished my first scarf! YEAY! So I ended up starting it like 8 times, but finally I gave up on trying to make it perfect and just go with it. There are a few mistakes at the start of it but by the end of it, it looks good. Happy New Year!!! It's gonna be great!

What a great start! I can feel the difference already! After dealing with bronchitis and pneumonia for over 2 months now, I can finally say that I feel better! I made a decision that Dec. 31st was gonna be my last day of being sick. While my doc may still think I'm sick, I'm changing how I think about it, how I speak... everything. No longer will the words or thoughts "I've got _____" come out of my mouth/head. Positive energy out / Positive energy in. For the last 15 years I've had a crush on Miami Dolphins Tight End Jason Taylor and today he retired from football. The game was a total tribute to his amazing career. Thankfully, the Dolphins were able to pull out a win for his last game ever. Glad I could be there to witness it and say goodbye. Even if he did ignore me. :-) Of course he doesn't know I'm alive. Anyhoo... I feel wonderful, tired, but wonderful. It's gonna be a great year!

Craft Room Redesign - Part 1

While working on refinishing another piece of furniture (Post to come once finished), we decided to work on my craft room work desk top. Along time ago when Spiegel used to sell furniture, I purchased a great desk on clearance. Over the years my kitty cats used it as a bed, a scratching pad and a playground. Gotta love cats! The top work area was completely scratched and it was looking sad. My husband began sanding the top but the previous coats of stain made it impossible to sand properly. We decided to give the paint stripper a try. It was added to the top with a brush and we let it work for at least a half hour. Then we proceeded to remove the top layer with a spatula. There was still some stain left, so another coat of stripper was added.   I gotta say, though, had I known what a nice color removing one layer of stain would give, I would have stopped there.
